“Let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a President and senators and congressmen and government officials, but the voters of this country”.
Franklin D. Roosevelt
Voting is not a ritual, it is a sacred sacrament in place for our well-being individually and as a whole. I’ve been binging on the History of Monarchs lately and most of them were very brutal rulers. Weather they were be-heading their wives for not producing an appropriate heir or killing Protestants in Countries that were under the banner of Catholicism, the facts remain that the commoners and even the Nobles were doomed if they did not bow to the Crown.
America, while not originally created for people of color, recognized the importance of religious freedom and the need for people to have their say against unjust and greedy rulers. This agreement was made with God. In the formation of our Constitution, Pledge of allegiance, bill of rights and even on our currency. You can never make an oath to God and not expect to keep it. So as we head to the polls, we can look back and see that we may have kicked and screamed to deny freedom, opportunity and justice to others in this new land called America, but each time moral arch of the Universe and the oath to God prevails to move us closer to the vision that He has for our nation. In my mind, one day it will look something like heaven (Revelation 7:9). But meanwhile, we must continue to be more vigilant to exercise the one option that has been given to us all to assist in the creation of a more perfect union…and that is to Vote.
You matter, your voice matters and so does your vote.
